The Florida Public Service Commission cut rates Tuesday for three power companies due to declining fuel prices and other factors.
Florida Power & Light's monthly rate will drop by about $15 dollars for customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month. Most of the reduction would be offset if the commission approves a requested base rate increase that could add up to $13 dollars.
The commission also approved decreases of five cents for Progress Energy and a $1.46 for Tampa Electric Co. customers per thousand kilowatt hours.
FPL customers will also get a one-time credit in January.
The commission ordered the utility to refund $364 million dollars to customers because its current fuel rate is too high.
The refund will average about 44 dollars.
